Western Reserve Community Band's 18-year History

In 1997, two Hudson residents with an interest in music, Ralph Meyer and Dave Bucey, decided to try and start a community band. With the assistance of Hudson Community Education and Recreation (HCER), the two men placed an ad in the HCER brochure announcing the creation of a band and soliciting members. In February, 1997, the band held its first rehearsal at Hudson Middle School with 18 musicians some of whom had not played their instruments in over 20 years.

Since that first rehearsal, the WRCB has become a common fixture at events throughout Northeast Ohio and has grown to over 65 members from 18 surrounding communities. The ensemble has performed at Hattie Larlham, Hudson Works, Hudson Memorial Day Parade, Laurel Lake, The Elms, Hudson Ice Cream Social, Aurora Fourth of July Festival, Twinsburg Ice Cream Social, Twinsburg Concert on the Green, St. Barnabas Festival, Macedonia Longwood Park Festival, Stow Days Ice Cream Social, Stan Hywet Hall, Cuyahoga Falls River Square Amphitheatre, Hudson Fireworks, Hudson Pancake Breakfast, Hale Farms, Hudson Summer Music Festival, Blossom Family Days, St Joan Of Arc Summer Festival, Aurora Independence Village Concert, Vermilion's Woollybear Festival, Chapel Hill Mall, Carols on the Green, Hudson Holiday Walk, St. Barnabas Christmas Concert, Hudson Library Holiday Concert and our annual children's concert Teddy Bears Picnic.

In 2002, the band was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to help further its mission.

For the WRCB's tenth anniversary in 2007, they had commissioned Nikola Resanovic, a world-renowned composer and music educator, to write a new, celebratory concert band work that will receive its world premiere at the bands gala 10th anniversary concert in March 2007. Resanovic will use musical themes from Hudson past while creating new concert band repertoire for future generations.
